Troubleshooting Connecting Facebook

Frequently Asked Questions

  • The connect all option when connecting Facebook will tell the Moz Local tool you want to connect all your Moz Local locations to the selected Facebook account and group. This means that the tool will create new Facebook pages for any it is not able to find in the designated Facebook account.
  • Yes, when connecting Moz Local to your Facebook account for one location the tool may suggest other locations it finds within that Facebook account to connect. These will be locations you’re managing in Moz Local with listing details which match between both platforms. You can then select the locations you’d like to connect via the check boxes and click Confirm.
  • In order for Moz Local to connect to an unofficial Facebook page for a location, you must first claim it with Facebook directly. You can then connect to it via the Facebook connection flow in Moz Local.
  • If the Moz Local tool is not able to locate an existing Facebook page for the location you’re connecting, it will create the Facebook page for you in the connected Facebook account. In order for the Facebook page to be successfully created, a landscape photo and square logo must be added into the location data in Moz Local first.
  • Your Facebook account can become disconnected from Moz Local for various reasons including updating your password, permissions changes to the connected account, or removal of the local listing connector from your app integrations.
  • Facebook does not support the submission of address line 2 via API. This means you will not see the address line 2 from your Moz Local profile added to, or updated on, your connected Facebook page. If you need to have address line 2 included in your business address on Facebook, it is recommended that you do not connect Facebook to Moz Local in order to update that information manually. If you need to disconnect Facebook from Moz Local, you can do so by following the instructions outlined in our guide.

The location I want to connect isn’t an option in the listing connector

If you’re not seeing the location you’re trying to connect as an option in the location connector module, you can try the below steps to try and solve the problem:

  1. Try connecting via an incognito window.
  2. Ensure that you have admin rights for the location you’re trying to connect. (Editor rights will not allow us to connect.)
  3. Ensure that the name and address for the location you’re trying to connect match.
  4. Ensure that the location you’re connecting is set up as a location page and not a brand page or personal Facebook page.

I’ve already connected my Facebook account to one of my locations but now the tool won’t let me connect to my other location

If you’ve connected your Facebook account to another Moz Local location and you are now not able to connect the same account to another location, it likely means that full permissions were not given to the Local Listing Connector during the initial connection. In order to connect properly, the Local Listing Connector must have full permissions granted during the first connection.

If you need to reconnect your Facebook and allow the Listing Connector full permissions, you can do so by following the steps below:

  1. Disconnect from Facebook within the directories tab of Moz Local.
  2. Revoke access within Facebook for the Local Listing Connector. To do so, log into Facebook and head to your business integrations section.
  3. Restart the connection flow in Moz Local, allowing full permissions to the Local Listing Connector (i.e. do not uncheck any boxes for permissions- even for locations you’re not connecting at this time)

I'm unable to disconnect Facebook

To disconnect Facebook click on the Disconnect button on the Directories tab.

Disconnection issues may be caused by Facebook being originally connected at a business level. Due to the way this connection works you won’t be able to disconnect locations individually.

If clicking on this button does not disconnect Facebook from Moz Local we will need to disconnect at our end. Please reach out to help@moz.com with the name and address of each location you are wanting to disconnect from Facebook.

I’m unable to reconnect Facebook

If you’re still not able to reconnect, it likely means that the token for Moz’s access to Facebook has been revoked or it has expired. In order to reestablish the connection, please follow the steps below.

  1. Revoke access within Facebook for the Local Listing Connector. To do so, log into Facebook and head to your business integrations section.
  2. Restart the connection flow in Moz Local, allowing full permissions to the Local Listing Connector (i.e. do not uncheck any boxes for permissions- even for locations you’re not connecting at this time)
