Overview of the Priority Metric

The Priority Metric is the last metric noted in Keyword Explorer.

You will see the Priority score for a keyword noted in the Explore by Keyword section of Keyword Explorer as well as within your Keyword Lists.

Keyword Priority is a score out of 100 calculated by looking at all the other metrics: Volume, Difficulty, Organic CTR and My Score where 1 is very low and 100 is very high. Higher Priority represents a sweet spot of higher Volume and lower Difficulty.

The Nitty Gritty Details

The Priority score combines all our other metrics to create a single, sortable number you can use to effectively prioritize keywords. A high Volume keyword with a lower Difficulty score, higher Organic CTR, and higher My Score would have a very large Priority score and would be at the top of a Keyword List when ordered by Priority.

Similarly, a keyword with not much Volume, a higher Difficulty score, a lower Organic CTR score, and lower My Score would have a small Priority score and would fall to the bottom of a prioritized list.

What's a good score?

When you're building Keyword Lists, there's no "good" or "bad" Priority scores, only relative scores.

Priority should be used to help you determine which terms and phrases to target first -- it's like a cheat code to unlock easier wins. If you build large lists of 50-100 or more keywords, Priority is a powerful and easy way to sort. It becomes even more useful if you use My Score in Keyword Explorer to help add an estimation of value to you/your business/your client into the mix.
