This glossary provides definitions and explanations for terminology and metrics used throughout the Moz Local Tool. For information regarding terminology used throughout Moz Pro, please see our Pro Glossary.

Moz Local

NAP- Abbreviation for name, address and phone number.

Brick-and-Mortar - A physical building for a local business where customers can visit during set hours.

Check Presence - A free live search tool that queries a set number of directories to return a close match result of a name, address, and phone number of a business.

Citation - A local citation is any online mention of the name, address, and phone number for a local business.

Data Cleansing - The data cleansing service is both an automated and manual review process to ensure that your location data is accurate and properly formatted to ensure successful submission to the data partner network.

Duplicate Listing - When more than one listing has matching core name, address and phone number (NAP) details on the same platform. For example, two listings with the same phone number or same address.

Profile Completeness - A score representing how complete your Moz Local profile is out of 100.

Reputation Management - An important part of any local SEO plan which includes engaging with local consumers by staying on top of reviews as well as posting local updates. This is achieved via the Customer Feedback and Publish functionalities in Moz Local.

Review Management - Functionality in Moz Local which allows you to respond to reviews on various platforms from directly within the application.

Review Monitoring - Functionality in Moz Local which allows you to see and monitor business reviews in a read-only format.

Service Area Business (SAB) - A business that does not have a physical location for customers to visit. These businesses have a service area in which they operate and they travel to the customer to provide services (e.g. plumbers, locksmiths, etc.).

Visibility Index - A measure of overall completeness calculated by the number of identical data fields when comparing the current profile, in Moz Local, with the listings on various directory pages.
