The Benefits of Targeting Long-Tail Keywords

People searching long-tail keywords are typically more qualified and ready to purchase. These keywords can also be less competitive than shorter keywords.

Of course you can't just target any old long-tail keyword, you need to do some research, and lucky for you Moz Pro is here to help.

Find & Track Long-Tail Keywords

Use Moz Pro to find long-tail keyword opportunities by following these steps:

  1. Head to Moz Pro Campaigns > Rankings
  2. Click on the Opportunities tab
  3. Sort by Difficulty ascending
  4. Track keywords with ~4 or more words that look relevant to your industry
  5. Sort by Volume ascending
  6. Again Track keywords with ~4 or more words.

The Opportunities tab displays keywords that may be sending your site traffic but you’re not tracking.

Target Long-Tail Keywords You’re Almost Ranking for

  1. From the Rankings tab scroll down to Tracked Keywords Overview
  2. Sort by Rank
  3. Use the pagination on the bottom right to locate keywords you’re ranking for on the bottom of page 1 or top of page 2
  4. Click on keywords with ~4 or more words to review Difficulty and the strength of the other sites that are ranking
  5. Review the ranking URL and click the Optimize icon to find out where you can improve your content.

With these simple steps you can discover, track, and optimize your content for long-tail keywords. You may also want to segment your long-tail keywords using keyword labels so you can see how you're performing over time.
