Why am I getting an error when signing up for a free trial?

What's Covered?

If you are receiving an error when trying to sign up for a Moz Pro free trial, it is likely that the credit card entered is being declined. This guide outlines various reasons your card may be declined at checkout as well as commonly seen error messages.

Resolving Card Declined Errors

If you're trying to pay for any Moz subscription, and you receive a message that your card was declined, in most cases this can be resolved by trying another card, or talking directly with your bank.

Some reasons why payments are declined are:

  • The payment method is invalid
  • The billing details were entered incorrectly
  • There's an issue with your bank

Possible solutions include:

  • Try another credit card
  • Correcting the card information and trying again
  • Contacting your bank and trying again
  • Arranging to pay via manual invoicing (Available for annual Moz Pro plans only)

Can I sign up with a debit card?

We do accept some debit cards. If you receive an error message when signing up with a debit card you will need to reach out to your bank to check whether you can use your card to sign up for subscription services.

Error Message: “Your card was declined. If this issue persists please contact help@moz.com for assistance.”

A message saying Your card was declined will appear when a charge is denied by the bank. This can happen for two reasons:

Incorrect Information

If the expiration date or CVC code is incorrect, your bank will deny the charge. Check all the information you have entered matches the details on your card and try again.

Transaction Declined

If your card number, expiration date, and CVC are all correct, then it may be that your bank is denying the charge for another reason.

Moz is not able to resolve this error on our end. Please contact your bank with the date and time you tried to sign up for the Moz subscription. Once you have discussed this with your bank, they may need to lift and blocks or flags in place, you can then try the payment again.

Error Message: “An error occurred when processing the subscription. (EH-S001)”

If you are receiving this error during checkout it likely means you are using a payment method which is not supported by our system.

To resolve, please try using a different credit card to process the transaction.

You can read more about our accepted methods of payment in our guide.
