For everyone struggling, unfortunately tracking backlinks has always been a problem even to this day. I find SEMrush and Ahrefs to be the best resources for free backlink tracking. If you connect all of your Google tools and social accounts to SEMrush you'll find the free version has more than enough resources available.

It is so normal to find less domains links in Google Search Console than in Ahref or other similar tool, for example I looked some pages about SEO like this jamilmansilla.com or this other and I found that there are a clear difference. If you want to know about your backlinks best check out with another tool.

I've been facing the same issue lately. Be it on MOZ, SEMRish, or Ubersuggest, my backlinks seem to be not showing at all. I've been regularly posting new backlinks but my DA remains the same.

The same backlinks are displayed on my competitor's websites. Please check my website and let me know if I'm missing something?

                                Hello,

I can see that many recommendations of how to approach this issue of non-reflecting backlinks have already been provided. Unfortunately, I am still facing the same problem. In my case, weeks have already passed and I still cannot see any of those backlinks reflecting, even after confirming that they have actually been indexed by Google, Bing, and Yahoo. While my website crestwritings is relatively new, my team has been working hard on the backlinking approach but we are shocked to realize that the results are not forthcoming.

                                Someone please help me out.

@victornyc Going through the same issue. Half of SEO tools aren't crawling my links and showing zero backlinks for the said pages when in fact, I've seen google crawl and index all of those pages on its SERPs. This has got me confused and I'm now trying to find out my backlinks via the new Search Console but almost all the tutorials on the web only show how to find the links from the older interface. I can go to the "Links" option under the "Legacy tools and reports" but that only shows a handful of domains that have backlinked to my domain. That's very little info and doesn't distinguish links on page-wise basis. If it links to my domain, literally, any page of my domain regardless of the page, it just shows up there. Not helpful when I'm trying to find out backlinks for a certain page. As I type this, there are more than 1770 pages indexed by Google and my team is working on more than a hundred important pages at the moment. Is there a better way to know my backlinks, for the site and any particular page via the official Webmasters/GSC/Any search console? Another issue with these third-party tools is that they're showing up links to noindex, nofollow pages while not being able to fully show the actual indexed pages with follow links.

                                  Thanks 🙂

PS: I do understand that recently created links don't exactly show up on these tools. and I do understand that these tools have a crawler of their own, but at this point, it feels like I can't use these tools as a benchmark to present the quarterly progress of the brand.

Same problem is here! I run a matrimony website called Bandhan Media. My SEO team is working hard for getting high DA backlinks. I know they have placed my link in many websites. But unfortunately, these backlinks are not appearing in Google search console.

@joe_stoffel Hi Joe, interesting take on paid backlinks. Do google really have the algorithm to identify heavy anchor text rich sites as blackhat? Just asking because i'm trying to build my site's DA. CarCrashProfit I was wondering whether my car insurance industry specific backlinks are not showing up because google see some of the referring domains as bad?

Joe Thanks for wonderful explanation. Just more curious .You have written:

The links could be using some form of redirect that is not search engine friendly (crawlers are unable to follow it).

Is there any ways to find it out if the website is redirecting it

                                                    You are welcome.

Are you sure you are looking in the correct Google Search Console property? (http:// vs https:// vs http://www. vs https://www) - If you are looking in the https://www. property but these links point to the http://www. version of a URL, they will not register in this report.

I assume your links is one of these on the left-hand sidebar? (screenshot). If so, Google should be hitting your links whether they display in Search Console or not. I can see them in the cached version of a page and I can see parisnews.ir show up in an Open Site Explorer backlink report for tizland.ir.

That being said, I would caution you on these types of back links. Sitewide, anchor text heavy back links that appear to have been paid for such as these can trigger unwanted attention from Google and can lead to a penalized website. I'd recommend a more white hat approach to your link acquisition, see this Whiteboard Friday for more on this subject.

                                                        Hello,

There are several reasons this could be happening:

                                                        1. The page(s) containing your links may not have been discovered/indexed. It is possible Google is not able to access the pages containing your links.

                                                        2. The links could be using some form of redirect that is not search engine friendly (crawlers are unable to follow it).

                                                        3. The pages containing your links could be using a 'nofollow' directive that is preventing bots from accessing your links/outbound links.

                                                        4. They have been crawled and Google is simply not listing them in Google Search Console as they have acknowledged is normal in this Google Search Console help article ("Not all links to your site may be listed. This is normal.").

Hard to say without being able to see the links firsthand. If you would like to message me with the pages containing your links, I would be happy to take a quick look.

Bing Webmaster Tools Incompatibility Issues with new Microsoft Edge Browser

Our client received an email from Bing WMTs  saying "We have identified 4 known issues with your website in Microsoft Edge – the new default browser for Windows 10 and Bing –  Of the four problems mentioned, only two seem to be relevant (maybe) We’ve found that this webpage may include HTML markup that treats Microsoft Edge differently from other modern browsers. The new EdgeHTML rendering engine for Microsoft Edge is document-mode agnostic and designed for fast, modern rendering. We recommend that you implement one code base for all modern browsers and include Microsoft Edge as part of your modern browser test matrix. **We've found that this webpage may have missing vendor-specific prefixes **or may have implemented vendor-specific prefixes when they are not required in common CSS properties. This may cause compatibility problems with how this webpage renders across different browsers. Last month the client received 20K visitors from all IE browsers and this is significant enough to be concerned about. **Are other folks making changes to their code to adapt to MS Edge?  **

404 errors is webmaster - should I 301 all pages?

Currently working on a retail site that shows over 1200 404 errors coming from urls that are from products that were on the site, but have now been removed as they are seasonal/out of stock. What is the best way of dealing with this situation ongoing? I am aware of the fact that these 404s are being marked as url errors in Google Webmaster. Should I redirect these 404s  to a more appropriate live page or should I leave them as they are and not redirect them? I am concerned that Google may give the site a penalty as these 404s are growing (as the site is a online retail store and has products removed from its page results regularly). I thought Google was able to recognise 404s and after a set period of time would push them out of the error report. Also is there a tool out there that on mass I can run all the 404s urls through to see their individual page strength and the number of links that point at each one? Thanks.

Can backlinks from advertising cause a traffic drop?

Hi, I recently noticed that our organic traffic has started to drop and maybe coincidently our adwords traffic has increased. I was asked to investigate the drop. I know that from the google update that unnatural backlinks would be penalized so I thought it might be the backlinks from a site that we advertise on because of the sheer number we have required from them in the last month. Would you think that would be the cause? if not, what could it be? and if it is, how do I go about correcting it as fast as possible? Any Help with this would be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks, Colin

BingHoo Tools No Longer Directly Supporting AJAX

This post was derived from the fact that our website, which uses AJAX and AJAX urls formatted using Google's crawl guidelines (and ranks well), is being completely misread by BingHoo's bots (and destroying our rankings). After some research, we found that Bing's tools used to contain an option for their crawlers to interpret AJAX-infused urls, but that this feature was removed with the latest update. I've seen others post on this issue with no response, so I figured I'd post the customer support email we received below - kind of strange thing to receive. Takeaway - even AJAX done right is rough in BingHoo. (sorry I can't post my site here..). Hello, This is Roxanne of Bing Technical Support and I will be assisting you with this issue. I understand that you cannot find the Configure Bing for AJAX Crawling box in Bing Webmaster. Let me explain. We appreciate your feedback about Bing Webmaster tools. We regret to inform you that Bing Webmaster Tools is no longer directly supporting AJAX. We'll pass this feedback onto our Bing development team. If you are having ajax-specific related issues with your site in Webmaster tools, please let us know. We apologize for the time spent and the inconvenience this may have caused you.  If you should require further clarification and need more assistance, please feel free to reply to this email. Thank you and have a great day! Regards, Roxanne Bing Technical Support

What tool can i use to get the true speed of my site

hi, i am trying to get the true speed of my site. i want to know how fast www.in2town.co.uk is but the tools that i am using are giving me different readings. http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/#!/DkHoNWmZh/www.in2town.co.uk says the speed is 1.03s http://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.in2town.co.uk/i4EMDk34  says my speed is 2.25s and http://www.vertain.com/m.q?req=cstr&reqid=dAv79lt8  says it is 4.36s so as you can see i am confused. I am trying to get the site as fast as possible, but need to know what the correct speed is so i can work on things that need changing to make it faster. can anyone also let me know what speed i should be working for. many thanks

                                                          Backlinks to unique login pages

Hi There, This has turned out to be slightly long winded! Congrats to anyone who manages to follow what I am on about and cheers to anyone that can help! The company I work for has several hundred backlinks from customer sites (authority sites) that link to their unique login pages (e.g. customer.oursitesname.com/unique-identifier). From these pages they can access our learning platform. For maximum SEO benefits we have been trying to think of a way to get these customers to link to our start page. This is what we have come up with. Customers would link to us using a URL with this format www.oursitesname.com/#customer-unique-identifier. (I have read somewhere that Google “ignores” everything after a #). This URL would then cause a Jscript pop-up or drop-down to open. The pop-up or drop-down would be hidden for the normal user and only be visible for users that visit over the unique URL. The pop-up or drop-down would be unique for each customer (mainly for branding purposes). The pop-up or drop-down would contain signup/login fields. So now to my question, will this get us in trouble with Google? Is there a better solution than this? Are we over thinking it and should we just do something like this: www.oursitesname.com/customer-login/unique -identifier and set www.oursitesname.com/customer-login/ as the canonical? Does the Google bot get suspicious of hundreds of canonical tags pointing back to the one URL? Thanks in advance! Henry

Why are apostrophes and other characters still showing as code in my titles?

Hi, I have a WordPress-based site and overall everything is working well. However, I can't seem to figure out how to get apostrophes and other characters to display normally. Now, the problem isn't that they are displaying as code to normal visitors or up in the title bar, they are displaying as code to Google's bots as well as to SEOMOZ. Example: Normal visitor sees: About **** | **** - Metro Vancouver's IT & Web Experts Google and SEOMOZ see: About **** | **** - Metro Vancouver's IT & Web Experts I've played around with different ways of typing the title (not using character codes vs. using character codes) and nothing seems to work. Any help or explanation would be appreciated.

Javascript funtion as link? Why not show up?

We joined our Chamber of Commerce for the "link" as much as anything.  After 9 months of having a link from our local chamber it has never showed up anywhere.  You can see the link on my Chambers page, and you can click on it and it works.  But it does not show up anywhere else....Not in any backlink checker,  not in SEOmoz, not in Google Webmaster Tools. When I hover over our link on their page I see "javascript:encodeclick........my url" Is this link worth anything?  What is a javascriptencodeclick?  Does Google know it exists and give me credit for it?  Our Chamber is clueless... they hire someone to do their website.  Their webmasters response to my question was: Hi, These links look like this because this is just the way our system parses URLs that are entered into the membership directory so they can be clickable when displayed in the lister. These links will not have a negative effect on Google or SEO indexing purposes if that is what you are concerned about. They are not encoded or encrypted, this just happens to be the name of the Javascript function.
