Redirecting Homepage to Subdomain Bad or Good Idea??

I have a very old forum that still gets a lot of traffic, but when migrating over to another software that is cloud based we cannot redirect using same domain, SO the only option would to be to change the cname on a subdomain and then REDIRECT all the traffic from the ROOT domain permanently - would this be a bad move as the root domain wouldnt be used anymore as now its just setup to be redirected in order to use the software we need to use? Domain is 17 years old.

Both domains and subdomain are new to browse. So if you redirect the domain traffic to the subdomain, it also shares your link juice. If you do not want that platform then I think it is best, but it also affects your traffic. Because some users make the subject interesting on preview domains which may not be now

Domain migratioins can potentially keep most of the traffic, but with something like an old forum this seems unlikely - there's going to be a lot of pages, they're very old so won't be crawled often, and as it's probably not the main focus of your business, I suspect the migration won't receive the full attention of an SEO team.
As such, I'd say this question comes down to which you value most, out of organic traffic to the forum as it stands, and completing this software migration.

Hi guys, We're currently launching a new page, and we have an optimization and technical SEO expert (highly rated on Upwork, very intelligent, has solved complicated issues in the past and improved our Core Web Vitals greatly) suggesting we put canonical tags on every page of site, pointing to itself (other than the case of where canonicals should point to other page, we have those listed separately. Do you guys see a benefit to this? Could it harm us? He says large retailers do this, couldn't quite glean the benefit from it though. Current site ranks well and isn't set up like this. Solve Redirect Chains
I've gotten a few Redirect Issues that involve Redirect Chains, with the https:// version redirecting to the www. version and then redirecting to the right URL. Here is an example:

I've also tried checking the internal links to make sure that none of the links are the first one. They don't seem to be there. Does anyone have any tips on solving these Redirect Chains?0 -
Redirect Chain Issue
I just found I'm having a redirect chain issue for http://ifixappliancesla.com (301 Moved Permanently). According to Moz, "Your page is redirecting to a page that is redirecting to a page that is redirecting to a page... and so on" These are the pages involved: 301 Moved Permanently

You want all variants of your site's domain to end up at: https://www.ifixappliancesla.com/ " - which is totally true. But I would also like not to have the redirect chain issue! Remove a page after redirection
Hi, I had page eg. www.example.com/page1 and I redirect 302 it to > www.example.com/page2 After that I fatch this page (page2) with GSC and this page was index in serp. Can I remove this old redirect page > www.example.com/page1 now? Will this remove harm my page?

Block bad crawlers
Hi! how are you? I've been working on some of my sites, and noticed that i'm getting lots of crawls by search engines that i'm not intereted in ranking well. My question is the following: do you have a list of 'bad behaved' search engines that take lots of bandwidth and don´t send much/good traffic? If so, do you know how to block them using robots.txt?
